Deaf Awareness Week will be happening w/c 28 June so please have a think about how you can support Phoenix. This years theme is ‘Look at Me’ and aims to improve understanding of deafness by highlighting the different methods of communication used by deaf children, such as sign language and lip reading.
Around 80 per cent of deaf children are educated in a mainstream school, so it is really important that their peers are aware of issues that deaf children can face, particularly the need to see their face when being spoken to.
There many fun ways in which you can get your office, school or youth club to support us:
- Mufty day (minimum donation of £1 per pupil)
- Lip-reading challenge – see if you can correctly lip-read a range of words
- Sponsored silence – to understand how much harder it is for a deaf child to communicate with others
- Signathon – get someone to teach you some basic signs and be sponsored for every new sign learnt
- Fingerspell challenge – learn how to fingerspell and make up words
- Sponsored swim
- Cake sale
Hope we can count on your support!
If you’re a UK taxpayer, please let us know so that we can claim Gift Aid (an extra 28p for every £1) on your donations too!
