General enquiries If you have a general enquiry, please have a look at our frequently asked questions below.

How can Phoenix help? Phoenix courses are designed by individuals who have a real understanding of deafness. As well as imparting valuable and practical information the workshops give you and your children the chance to network with others who are going through similar experiences. Children who are at mainstream schools may have limited number of friends who are deaf. By coming on a workshop they meet others who share similar experiences and this can help promote their self-esteem.

Where are your workshops held? We primarily run our workshops around Hertfordshire. We are however looking to expand. We are not linked to a building and so if funding is available we can run courses in other locations.

How do I get hold of your telephone training guide?
Come on one of our training workshops and you'll receive a guide free of charge

How can I meet other parents? We run specific workshops for parents of young deaf children. We are strongly in favour of parents networking to share information and motivate each other. We also have regular social events where parents can meet. We have a group of volunteers who are happy to ring or visit new parents. Parents also meet up at the fundraising meetings which are held regularly.

What about me? I’m 15. Our courses cover a range of ages. We have run specific training courses for teenagers including telephone skills and interview skills. Some of our teenage members are working to apply for a grant which will help them to meet up on a regular basis and learn new skills.

My brother is deaf - what can I do? Come on one of our siblings courses….. they are very popular! It’s great to meet others who have similar experiences. As one of our siblings said, “It’s great to have a day dedicated to me for a change!”

Our family needs to learn to sign - where can we go? We run sign workshops which concentrate on specific vocabulary to help you communicate with deaf children. We can tailor the workshops to your needs.

Our child has just been diagnosed with a hearing loss. Can you help us? We can put you in touch with other parents. By signing up to our courses we can demonstrate techniques which can aid communication between you and your child.
